SA’s first Xhosa sci-fi film

Science fiction is not the first thing you associate with the Xhosa language and culture, until now. As part of the second annual BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) film festival, Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke commissioned filmmakers from each of the five nations to produce a short film. Thanks to his input South Afric is getting its first all-Xhosa sci-fi short, titled Stillborn, directed by Jahmil XT Qubeka that tells the story of a genderless robot, Nobomi, working in a dystopian society 3000 years in the future.  The film explores themes of African cultural identity and the relationship between mankind and technology. The film will make its debut in 2018 at the South African leg of the BRICS film festival, check out the teaser below.

OFF-WHITE x NIKE Lucky Packets

Calling all hype beasts, clothes horses, and sneakerheads! We have all the details from the upcoming OFF WHITE x Nike collaborations dropping this Spring. Nike needs no introduction, but the uninitiated OFF-WHITE is the brainchild of DJ, designer, and frequent Kanye collaborator Virgil Abloh. His high-end men and womenswear brand is a favourite of the Jenners and the Hip Hop community at large. Unsurprisingly, this marriage of “urban” and mainstream appeal has made the brand the perfect target for a fashion collabo. The collection is exclusively a sneaker based and will feature two “packs” made up of five sneakers each. The first pack – “REVEALING” consists of the Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid. The remaining five sneakers (Nike Air Max 97, React Hyperdunk, Air Force 1, Zoom Vaporfly and Chuck Taylor All-Star produced by Converse-owned Nike) will be released as part of the “GHOSTING” pack. Our mouths have been watering ever since we saw our first glimpse of the Air Jordan 1 back in June. With so many silhouettes to choose from, there’s a pair for everyone.

The Jetsons Go Live

Everybody’s favourite futuristic family, The Jetsons, is coming to television for a live action reboot. Backed by an all-star team that includes the writers of Family GuyWill and Grace and the director the Back To The Future trilogy, Robert Zemeckis. Hollywood is currently enamoured with the idea of the live action reboot with Disney alone planning literally dozens (hello, Aladdin) of adaptations slated for release in the coming years. With no word on casting yet there is much speculation as to what the unnamed pilot ordered by ABC Television will look like. There is something undeniably exciting about flesh and blood actors transforming your most beloved childhood heroes into something new.
