Over the last few years, singer/song-writer, Tresor, has been steadily working himself up from being a Durban car guard to a 2016 SAMA Award winner. This week Tresor will the opening act for SEAL during his three-concert visit to South Africa
So who exactly is this Tresor?
Originally hailing from a war-stricken DRC (where he lost both his parents at seventeen), Tresor hitchhiked his way down to Durban, South Africa, where the rest of his artistic mission makes the ultimate inspiration story.
He arrived on Durban’s doorstep without a cent to his name, only to find that the person he was sending his savings to disappeared. This being the fuel his ambition needed to make it in the music industry, he worked his way into Durban’s music scene, eventually joining the group Maisha, who opened for the likes of Eddy Grant, Johnny Clegg and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
Steam rolling his career forward: He stood in line for SA Idols, ended up in the top 30, won the Rolling Stone Magazine and Intercontinental Hotel Group Express Songwriting challenge, signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, penned and collaborated with Zahara (the bestselling artist in South Africa), went on tour promoting her album with her in 11 National cities, wrote and released “the soundtrack to his story”, VII, and hit single Mount Everest, went platinum, won a SAMA Award.
Phew, stop. Inhale. Exhale.
All that’s left to say is WOW! We can’t wait to see what peak we see him reach next.
