There is never a bad time to celebrate the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela but today, what would have been his 100th birthday, we relish the opportunity to shine a light on the life of South Africa’s greatest son. Educator, fighter, liberator and leader are just some of the many roles that came to define his life and have since come to define the great work he has left behind and is carried on by the thousands who believe in the work that he stood for.
As committed citizens, we at CSA undertook to further his ideals and now look back at some of the best collaborations between CSA and the father of our nation, Nelson Mandela.
In 2011 CSA, in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, organised the Nelson Mandela Legacy Canvas Event. In celebration of the former stateman’s birthday, we brought together a host celebrities and dignitaries to place their handprints over a large canvas which would be auctioned off to raise money for the NMF and the Mayor Of Cape Town’s charities. All told, 67 sets of prints were placed on The Mandela Legacy Canvas. The list included Djimon Hounsou, Quinton Fortune, Dr Danny Jordan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and rock legend, Bryan Adams, to name a few.
The canvas was auctioned off and bought by British American Tobacco rasing over R3 million for the selected charities.
In 2013 following the passing of Nelson Mandela CSA was afforded the honour & privilege to be the appointed event management company by the City of Cape Town for a series of events to celebrate the life of the father of the South African nation, Former President Nelson Mandela, upon his passing on December 5. The 10 days of events held in front of the balcony at the Cape Town City Hall.

His presence was all-encompassing and there was no way to not be affected by this when you were lucky enough to be around him. The time my wife Fran and I spent with him are some of my most cherished memories and getting to honour his legacy through impactful work – which hopefully helped others – is something I will always be thankful for,” says Marc Le Chat MD of Celebrity Services Africa
