Despacito is bigger than you imagine

Despacito, the song of the Summer ( Winter  Autumn, Spring and Summer -again) is proving its massive popularity with its latest milestone. Despacitio has become the most viewed YouTube video of all time, dethroning Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s, See You Again. At 3.1 billion views and counting the Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee smash is still going strong more than seven months after its debut online. The entertainment juggernaut also holds the honour of most streamed song of all time and has held the top spot on the Billboard hot 100 for twelve consecutive weeks – a mind blowing achievement considering many fans  probably don’t even know the words they’ve been enthusiastically singing along to for the better part of a year.

Sol-Sol looks good good

The boys at Sol-Sol once again bring the goods with the drop of their Spring/Summer ’18 collection. The iconic Cape Town based streetwear label continues to impress as they embrace bold colours, patterns, and prints in their new collection. Old favourites like the work jacket and t-shirts have been updated with new patterns, and custom designs courtesy of Colette designer BAD IDEA. New silhouettes – including button down shirts and 2 piece combos, have made their way into the brand’s design vocabulary and are certain to add a touch of sophistication to any wardrobe. Once again a Sol-Sol collection has been featured on the sites of culture curators Highsnobiety and Hypebeast. We can’t wait for the collection when it arrives in stores later this year. Our wallets were never ready.

Take a look at a selection of the best looks below.

SA won’t get left off Bad and Boujee

In the best news of the week, Migos is set to make their South African debut when they touchdown for the South African leg of their CULTURE world tour. The Atlanta trio, best known for their hits T-Shirt, and Bad Boujee will be headlining shows in Durban and Johannesburg. Local label Mabala Noise made the announcement on their social media pages. With the exception of perhaps Despacito (see above), Migos have been the biggest name in music over the past twelve months. They were everywhere this past year: They appeared as stylised versions of themselves in Donald Glover’s Golden Globe winning series Atalanta, and their distinctive staccato rap flow and energetic ad libs were heard on tracks from Katy Perry to Calvin Harris. In fact, he trios ostensible leader, Qauvo, has almost 50 solo features to his credit.

Wayde on track for 200/400m double

South Africa’s golden boy, Wayde Van Niekerk is on course to complete an athletic feat not seen since the days of track legend Michal Johnson in Gothenburg in 1995. Wayde comfortably won the 400m to become the world champion at the IAAF World Championships in London. Although his victory in the longer distance was easy to come by the quest for the 200m title (and the double) will not be as easy. Wayde struggled to a third place finish in his heat and only managed to gain entry to the final after being one of the fastest third place finishers. The eyes of a nation will be on Wayde as he competes with a field that includes Botswana’s Isaac Makwala (the fastest man over 200m this season), Isiah Young, and Jareem Richards.

In an update to this story, Wayde finished in second place behind Turkey’s Ramil Guliyev.
