Luvo Manyonga is a South African track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. Raised in Mbekweni, in Paarl, and started his track and field career in local competitions where his talent in the long jump was first identified. His first major success was receiving a bronze at the 2009 African Junior Athletic Championships in Mauritius. He was the African Games champion in 2011 and the runner-up at the 2016 African Championships in Athletics. Manyonga represented South Africa at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, placing fifth. He was the Olympic silver medalist in 2016 and world champion in 2017.
