The tournament has arrived and the biggest question of everyone’s lips is: who wore it better? The field of play will feature some of the most talented athletes on the planet vying for World Cup victory, but equally as important is whether or not  will they look good doing it.

To answer this we’ve compiled our list of the 10 best looking jerseys from the teams taking part in Russia 2018.

Words: Tshiamo Seape

10. Poland

Kit maker: Nike

You cant go wrong with red and white in most instances, but despite the crowned eagle of the national crest the home and away kits don’t inspire much in the way of fervent support; this ensemble is a group stage contender at best.

9. Brazil

Kit maker: Nike

With a football pedigree as storied as Brazil, one would expect a better, more imaginative effort when it comes to kits. Unfortunately, 2018’s home kit is a boring reproduction of World Cup jerseys of old. The good news, however, is that the the gorgeous blue of their away kit will have the team looking better than ever.

8. France

Kit maker: Nike

While we would have expected more from the Fashion capital of the world, we cant be too disappointed by Frances understated 2018 effort. As tournament favourites, maybe their performance can redeem their wardrobe.

7. Argentina

Kit maker: Adidas

An icon of tournament style, Argentina’s baby blue stripes are synonymous with these World Cup powerhouses. The away jersey is the star in this duo and features the traditional Adidas three stripe motif that transform into a bold design that moves down the side of the chest giving it a retro yet contemporary feel.

6. Japan

Kit maker: Adidas

More than making up for a rather dull home kit (pictured in white), Japan’s polka dot patterned away kit is truly something special. For a team not expected to make much of a statement trophy wise, this jersey is likely to stay in our minds longer than the team stays in the tournament.

5. Germany

Kit maker: Adidas

the defending champs return to the tournament with two winning ensembles inspired by the World Cup winning side of 1990. The distinctive chevron pattern adorning both the home and away jerseys makes for a distinctive and consistent design thread throughout.

4. Colombia

Kit maker: Adidas

2014’s most exciting squad may have a lot to live up to in Russia, but if style is anything to go by, Los Cafeteros are already winners in our eyes. Sporting a homage to the golden era of Colombian football, their beaming yellow home jersey may just outshine all of their opponents while the blue and orange of the away delivers some subtle design elements we’re loving right now.

3. Croatia

Kit maker: Nike

Always one of the more polarising kits in any international tournament, Croatia returns to WC 2018 with an updated version of their now ubiquitous checks; standing out is not for everyone, but we love a bit of showmanship. We would have liked to see the pattern continued on the back of the jerseys, but we’ll make due. The pattern on the red and white home kit is as striking as ever and transforms an understated royal blue and black away kit into a coveted style item you’d be happy to rock off the pitch.

2. Belgium

Kit maker: Adidas

Warning:  This Belgian kit will impress on arrival. Sporting solid red and yellow and adorned with an argyle pattern across the chest of the home jersey ( a nod to their Euro ’84 team), shows how small details can make a huge impact. Both kits play perfectly between outstanding and downplayed – a classic.

1.Nigeria

Kit maker: Nike

There was only ever going to be one #1 – Nigeria. With 3 million pre-orders, a sub 30 minute online sellout and lines quite literally around the block, Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup kit was less of an apparel release and more of a cultural milestone. One so big it is likely to inspire scores of casual supporters to switch allegiances based solely on the dynamic design being worn by the Super Eagles. Oh yes, there is an away kit.
