12 Jul Skateboarding hero Jean-Marc Johannes smashes ANOTHER Guinness World Record
- Jean-Marc Johannes completes 21 nollies in 30 seconds
- Breaks US skater Ivan Sebastian Cordova’s 10-year record
- Now holder of 5 Guinness Records
Undisputed South African Skateboarding Hero, Jean-Marc Johannes continues to take down the records of skateboarder legends. The Capetonian’s latest record breaking achievement happened last month when he smashed US skateboarder, Ivan Sebastian’s 10 year record of the most nollie flips in 30 seconds.
A nollie (short for nose ollie) is a skateboarding trick where the skateboarder uses his front foot to push the nose of the board down and slides his back foot backwards to achieve lift-off from the ground.
“I’m very happy and humbled to have been able to achieve another record – which makes two in one year. It has always been a dream to break a record and once I gained the confidence to do one, I’ve aimed to continue to push myself even further. Breaking five Guinness World Records is more than a dream come true. I hope by breaking another record will inspire other athletes to push themselves in their chosen sport,” said Jean-Marc.
Jean-Marc remains disciplined and focused on his training for the Tokyo Olympics next year. He explains: “I’ve increased my training greatly and put myself to the physical test to break records. At the start of the year I was prepared for the Olympics but with the postponement I’ve had time to train and feel more than ready.”
Johannes is considered one of the top 100 skateboarding athletes globally. “Although delayed, it’s a dream come true to represent South Africa country on the biggest international sports stage,” he said. Indeed, it would seem that the new Guinness Record on “Olympic Day” (June 23rd) is a good forecast of what’s to come.
