Media personality and Founder of the GRL PWR SeriesTumi Voster, moderated a United Nations Women Africa event that took place in Johannesburg this past Friday on Women’s Day.

UN Women, alongside Born to Succeed, hosted the Young Women’s Dialogue in preparation for the UN Women Africa Regional Dialogue to take place in Abidjan, Ivory Coast later this month. This all leads up to the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2020.

In the Young Women’s Dialogue event, Tumi moderated a number of panel discussions on the Advancement of Women, Gender Equality, the Empowerment of all Women and Girls as well Women and Health.

Having hosted her own women empowerment events with her GRL PWR Series platform, Tumi continues to use her voice as an agent of change and to impact towards women’s stories.

“I’m honoured to have been part of this important event which gave me the opportunity to be part of a generation of gender equality advocates contributing to the advancement of women and girls. So much has been done but so much still needs to be done in the complete emancipation of women and this is another step in that direction,” says Tumi.

The year 2020 will be pivotal in the accelerated realisation of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls everywhere, with a confluence of anniversaries set to take place, including the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Conference as well as the 10th anniversary of the creation of UN Women.
