Zakes Bantwini Is Answering the Call
From European stages to Mayonie Open Air back home, Corona's first African ambassador reveals why the strongest brand partnerships begin with shared values, not simply celebrity.

A Grammy winner takes South African creativity back onto the world stage.

Four European cities. One journey beyond the music.

Golden hour, travel and nature reveal the person behind the performer.

Why the best ambassador partnerships start with cultural fit.
There is something fitting about Zakes Bantwini spending his European summer moving between music, cities, people and places.
Palma de Mallorca. Lisbon. Hamburg. Berlin. Then Amsterdam Dance Event, one of electronic music's most influential global gatherings.
For an artist who has spent more than two decades taking South African music into the world, it's another extraordinary chapter. But this time, there's another traveller alongside him: Corona.
Zakes is the brand's first African ambassador, bringing together a global beer brand and one of South Africa's most celebrated creative exports. Yet the connection runs considerably deeper than celebrity.
Because Zakes doesn't simply talk about living. He does it.
Beyond the Stage
Through a short film, Corona follows the Grammy Award-winning artist beyond the performances, capturing the travel, nature, discovery and experiences that fuel his creativity.
It's here that Corona's "Living Is Calling" philosophy becomes tangible.
The partnership isn't asking Zakes to step into a brand world. Rather, it's stepping into his; one shaped by music, curiosity, creativity and a belief in experiencing life rather than watching it pass by.
And the journey doesn't end in Europe.
Then It Comes Home
Back in South Africa, in a new collaboration, Corona and Bantwini's Office Politics platform transformed two workplaces, South African Breweries (SAB) and Universal Music Group, into sunset experiences this August, using music, culture and human connection to turn the end of the working day into a shared moment of celebration.
Corona will also join Mayonie Open Air, Zakes' own festival property across Durban and Johannesburg, as Official Beer Partner, taking the story full circle from international stages back to South African sunsets, music and community.
For marketers, there is a bigger lesson here.
The strongest ambassador relationships rarely begin with reach alone. They start with genuine alignment between the life an artist is already living and the values a brand wants to represent.
That was central to CSA's approach in identifying and securing Zakes for Corona: not celebrity first, but fit. An artist with global cultural credibility, authentic platforms of his own and a way of life that already reflected Living Is Calling.
From the European journey and Golden Hour content to Mayonie Open Air and the earned-media narrative around the partnership, the opportunity is to build one connected story rather than a series of ambassador appearances.
Perhaps that's where the best brand partnerships begin.
Not with a campaign looking for a celebrity.
But with two worlds that already see life in much the same way.
