Learn the ins and outs of one of Africa’s greatest cities, Lagos, with fashion icon and the brains behind fashion label, Orange Culture – Adebayo Oke -Lawal.

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

Grew up in Lagos and currently live in Lekki, a town in Lagos.

What can’t you travel without?

My phone.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon in Lagos?

Sleep lol! Sunday naps are the best. After that grab a meal with friends/karaoke…

If you could choose one person to show you “their Lagos” who would it be

I actually can’t think of anyone, to be honest. Maybe Temi Otedola – she knows how to have a great time and we are rarely ever in Lagos at the same time.

What are your favourite Lagos restaurants, and what do you order there?

Sugarcane – jambalaya spaghetti/pasta and one of my new faves, The Backyard.

What are your go-to spots for drinks?

Crossroads is one of my faves and NOK by Alara.

What’s your favourite Lagos brunch spots, and what do you order when you go?

Churchill – literally one of the most hidden places but they serve amazing brunch!

Where do you get your art fix in Lagos, and do you have a favourite artist?

Re-Le or Red Door – I have a lot of artist loves but Eloghosa Osunde is my number one lover.

What are some of your under the radar must-do recommendations for Lagos visitors?

Karaoke at Crest Lounge – super private and has great pepper soup, attend Afropolitan Vibes, visit Re-Le or Red Door and if you’re lucky to enjoy a play at Terra Kulture.

What are some of your favourite Lagos shops?

Alara, Temple Muse and Grey Velvet

What music are you listening to these days?

Sza, Nonso Amadi, Jon Ogah, Solange, King, Nao, Wet and a lot along that vibe.

What song would you consider your personal soundtrack to Lagos?

Uncle Suru by Jon Ogah.

When you think of Lagos, are there any particular memories that immediately come to mind?

I think of family! We are very family oriented people – whenever I’m away I want to come see my family. I think of a lot of undiscovered talent and I think of a budding city – we will be great.

What subcultures do you find intriguing?

The art and poetry scenes are quite intriguing to me.

Where are the young creatives spending their time?

At work, haha.

Who are some local designers worthy of a shout out?

Let me start off by shouting out my team at Orange Culture. Thank you for helping me keep the brand afloat. I’d also like to shout out Gozel Green, Maxivive, Emmy Kasbit, Rich Mnisi, Dunni Lambo and all the amazing designers creating a strong voice/legacy for themselves
